Frequently asked questions

Is Kidster free?

Kidster is free to download and play, with no ads and no sign-up. The free version covers the colours, the shapes, counting to ten and a good part of the animals, with no daily limit and no cap on how much of it you use. Premium opens everything else for $2.99 a month or $17.99 a year, and you can cancel any time.

Do you show ads or collect data about my child?

No to both. Kidster shows no advertising at all, and nothing about your child is tracked, measured or sent anywhere. There’s no account to create and no name to type in. The camera and microphone stay switched off, and whatever you set stays on your own device.

Does my child need to be able to read?

No. There’s no writing on the cards, so your child hears the word instead of reading it. Colours, shapes and numbers are spoken aloud in the language you choose, and the animals make their real sounds.

How do the screen-time limits work?

In the Parent Zone you set a daily limit of 15, 30 or 60 minutes, or leave it open, and pick the time of day it resets. The clock only runs while your child is actually in a lesson or a quiz. When time is up the screen is covered, and you can add more or take it back.

How does the Parent Zone lock work?

Add two small numbers together and tap the right answer. The unlock lasts only while the app is open. Close it and the Parent Zone locks again. Settings, the subscription page, our email address and every link that leaves the app sit behind it.

Does Kidster work without internet?

Yes. All the pictures and sounds live inside the app, so there is nothing to load and nothing to wait for. You only need a connection to buy or restore Premium. On a plane, in the car or with no signal at all, everything still works.

What age is Kidster for?

Kidster is made for toddlers and preschoolers, roughly one to five. There’s no age screen, birthday or profile to fill in. The app just opens. Little ones usually start in Learn mode, and the quizzes suit a child who already recognises a few pictures.

Which languages does Kidster speak?

Eleven: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Ukrainian, Polish, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Colours, shapes and numbers are spoken by a real voice in each one. Animal sounds are the real thing, so they work in any language.

Is Kidster available on Android?

Not yet. Kidster is on iPhone and iPad today, and it fills the iPad screen properly rather than stretching. The Android version is being built and is not on Google Play, so anything called Kidster there is not ours.

Are there streaks, points or rewards my child will chase?

No. There are no streaks, points, leagues or daily rewards, and nothing is lost if you skip a week. A right answer gets a little cheer and then it’s over. The only thing Kidster remembers is where your child left off.

Do we need headphones? Is it loud?

No headphones needed. Every sound is set to the same volume, so nothing suddenly blares out. It plays even with the iPhone ring switch on silent, and if the phone is muted, Kidster tells you instead of playing nothing. Animations and buzzing can each be turned off.
